There's a Mac in my Life...

Well, last week I was in tears.  A virus ruined my computer, and the cost to correct the issue (or for them to TRY to figure out how to fix the issue) was so not worth it.  She's a five year old laptop, and I've had problems with her for a couple years already... it's time to put her down.

This week, I write to you on a brand new iMac, a wonder of wonders I thought I was years from being able to experience.  The transition from Windows to Mac is a bit shaky, but I'm catching on, and I'm sure by the end of the week I'll have a much better handle on it (and hopefully I'll learn how to type on this ridiculous little keyboard).  As she is an Apple, I've named her after my favorite apple, Honeycrisp. :)

I hadn't realized just how much I had on my computer that was Windows specific!  But the lovely people at Adobe are sending me a new disc of Photoshop CS5 Extended for Mac, at only the cost of shipping (I verified this BEFORE the Mac purchase... that would have been a horrible surprise).  The lovely people at Rosetta Stone have helped me with my Spanish and Italian course license issues as well.  I also spent a chunk of time on the phone with the lovely people at Microsoft getting my MS Office for Mac situated.  I've felt dizzy quite frequently today.... not sure if it's because of the giant screen I get to look at all day now (which will be LOVELY for photo editing!!! I can't WAIT to get Photoshop back!), or just because I've been in hyper-info-dump-into-kristin's-brain mode.  It's probably a combo.

So, Mac users, what is one thing you love about your Mac?  Is there a particular shortcut or feature you learned and thought "So THAT'S how you do that!  If only I knew that SOONER!"? Please share your tips! I feel like I'm still fumbling around this thing. :)

Oh computer virus that caused me such misery but a short time ago... I thank thee.
For thou hath brought me to a new world of delicious Apples... a better world...
a virus-free world!

  3. That's awesome. My husband literally had to buy me a Mac before I would ever consider using one. I love that Microsoft has Office for Mac. I'm still not willing to give up Word. I know all the features, I'm familiar with the shortcuts, but I love the simplicity of my Mac. :) Congrats :)

  4. Congrats on the switch over to Mac! I did the same thing about 7 months ago after my laptop bit the dust. I was all PC, all the time and now I LOOOOVE my Mac!

  5. Congratulations! I'm planning on making my next computer a Mac, although I expect to crank out a few more rusty months on this one before it dies completely.

  7. My other computer is shiny new for the second time in a month. We bought an upgrade to speed up the plodding old computer but this weekend my husband found that dropping a cup of coffee and letting it drip down the tower while he was too busy worrying about his crown-jewels was a mistake! ;) I'm calling the new computer NEW2.

  8. I adore my Mac - a white iBook G4 - which will be five years old in February. I know she is nearing the end of her natural life but I am resisting this!

And remember - command + click = right click!

  10. Love her name. Although I think you could have gone with Golden Delicious (c;

We really are twinies though. My computer has a nasty virus that makes the screen turn into negative images all the time. I'm getting a Mac next week. Adam deemed it so. I say YAY!

  11. Thank you thank you, I must say I'm enjoying it so far. :)

Elaine - GASP! My husband put a shirt in the washer AND dryer with a pack of gum in the breast pocket last year. Once in the dryer, the gum melted and coated the inside of the dryer.... totally ruined. What stinks is, we got new high efficiency ones and I DON'T LIKE THEM. If we move before they die, they are STAYING.

Ellen - i probably played around with that for an hour before I figured out how to get my right click menu! Definitely important!!!

Dezz - Yep! My truck is too. Her name is Chameleon or Chamele for short.

Twinie - SO SORRY!!! But Macs are fab and you won't have to worry about viruses again!!! If you have a Best Buy credit card, now is the best time to do it!!!

  16. Congrats Kristin, thanks for stopping by. To be honest I think Mac's are way better than PC's and I cant wait to get my hands on one. Lucky you! I wish I could give you pointers but the Mac forums are always quite helpful. Went to visit my cousin once and she has a Mac, was completely lost on how to use it but those forums helped.

Command+ Shift+4 is my fav easy step to capture an image from your screen.
